Interesting notes regarding the dining table

DESCRIPTION: A large Queen Anne styled dining table with a unique mechanism that incorporates six hidden legs that drop down to prevent the table from sagging when open and are totally out of view when the table is closed. Two pillars support the solid mahogany tabletop and claw pedestals are styled after one featured in Kirk (1982) . The pillars are turned and fluted and attached to each claw with a dovetail joint. This joint is in turn reinforced by an iron spider screwed to the undersurface. The top contains four drawers at each corner with the fronts fashioned from the apron. The mechanism is placed in a sleeve that is fastened to the pedestals in such a way that the sleeve and pedestals become one sturdy unit.

WOODS: Mahogany with maple expansion mechanism.
DIMENSIONS: H 30" x W 48" x L 5' 4" closed, 174" (14' 6" open)
Six leaves; four are 22" x 48" and two are 11" x 48".
NOTES: 1. Photographed by Dirk Bakker.
2. Carol Lash, Joseph Lash, Rebecca Lash, and Matthew Lash each signed the top of one of the apron drawers.
