Derived from an early 1820-1850 child's toy or salesman's sample, this miniature Walnut and Elm chest of drawers is destined to be a jewelry box.
The construction methods are the same as those employed for a full size chest: Walnut veneers over a dovetailed poplar carcass, Elm burl veneered, dovetailed
poplar drawers and walnut cock beading around drawer fronts.
The veneer was applied by hammering with hot hide glue.
The drawer heights were rearranged from the original and a secret drawer was added.
The knobs are self-turned Gaboon ebony. All the drawers have paper linings.
Shown side by side with the original in the last photo.
