Clock

This clock is our interpretation of one made in 1842 by Daniel M. Tuthill of Saxtons River, Vermont. The original clock is currently on display at the American Clock and Watch Museum of Bristol, Connecticut. The basswood case is veneered with curly maple and fiddleback makore. My wife, Mary Ann, decorated the dial which has two gilded (with 23K gold) concentric rings and gilded raised gesso designs. Also, the 18 gauge steel dial is painted and the numbers are hand inked. The dial is a copy of an original in our collection. She also bronze powder stenciled the lower glass tablet with the same patriotic theme found on the original Tuthill clock. This stencil design was made by William B. Fenn, a very prolific Connecticut stencil maker, who produced clock stencils from 1829 to 1863. The clock has a Franz Hermle bronze bushed, spring driven movement with a curly maple and brass pendulum.
